Chipper Jones has gone 0-7 with five strike outs in his two appearances with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, but it was his early exit during the USA’s 15-6 romp over Venezuela that is most concerning. Jones left “after feeling a slight strain in his right side while taking a fifth inning swing from the left side of the plate.” Manager Bobby Cox is not too worried about Jones’s injury, especially since the third baseman is only expected to miss 2-3 days. It seems like oblique injuries are old hat for Chipper, but I’d prefer for him to stay on the safe side of things, you know with it being March and all.
In other injury news, looks like last Friday’s post featuring the newly acquired Garret Anderson could have been re-titled “Your First…And Last Look at Garret Anderson.” The left fielder was unable to play in Friday’s 13-0 rout of the Astros because of an injured right calf. While he will most likely return before the season is over, he’s not quite sure when that will be.
Also on the injury front Jordan Schafer looks to be heeling quite well. The 22 year old prospect who has been battling Josh Anderson for centerfield, says his shoulder is feeling a lot better and could return to the line-up soon.
News&Notes: Tommy Hanson went four innings striking out seven and allowing one run in the Braves 7-2 victory over the Phillies.
