Recap: An early exit by starter Tom Glavine spelled trouble for the Braves who attempted a comeback but fell a run short in their 5-4 loss to the Nationals. Tom Glavine was charged with two runs in his short outting and was replaced by Jeff Bennett who didn't fair much better in four innings of relief work. The Braves staged a comeback in the sixth notching three runs including a homerun by Chipper Jones that drove in two, but were unable to complete the weekend sweep of the Nationals even though they had the bases loaded with an out remaining in the ninth.
WP: Tim Redding (2-1) LP: Tom Glavine (0-1) S: Jon Rauch (2)
Next Game: Tuesday, @ Marlins 7:10 PM/est
News & Notes: The Braves have a day off on Monday...With Glavine's health already questionable, the Braves also have to worry about oft-injured third baseman Chipper Jones who seen limping around the clubhouse after injuring his quad on Friday. Jones did play on Sunday knocking his second homer of the season, but the Braves have to wonder if this is a sign of things to come for Chipper...The closer role is opne for now and Manny Acosta is hoping to have a shot at it...Scott Spiezio's attempt at a comeback hit an abrupt snag on Saturday when the Richmond Braves released the veteran less than week after he plead guilty to drunken-driving.
It's been fun blogging with you,
