Any hopes that Javy Lopez would join Tom Glavine in returning to the Braves this season were cut when Lopez was dropped from the roster on Saturday. With no hope of returning to the big leagues, Javy decided to call it a career once and for all.
"He told me he really wants to retire as a Brave, said he thinks of himself as a Brave after spending the bulk of his career here. And that's how we think of him, too," GM Frank Wren said.
I was hoping he'd be able to join the team for one last season, but it was not meant to be. It just proves that for the team to succeed it can no longer look back at the magic of its 14 straight division titles and expect it to just reappear. Instead they must concentrate on the new crop of stars that will help propel the team to playoff contenders again.
