Mike Hampton Hopeful...again

After leaving Friday's 9-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers early with a groin injury on Friday, Mike Hampton is staying "cautiously optimistic" that he'll be able to jump right back into the rotation on Wednesday. Hampton worked out on a stationary bike on Saturday and is hoping that this will not be a major setback for him. The hurler is attempting to make his first big league regular season start since August 2005. Since then, the former 20 game winner has being sidelined with a nagging elbow injury. He also injured his hamstring during a blinked and you missed it trip to the Mexican League over the winter.

The Braves were hoping to use him as a number four starter this season, but the fragile Hampton is forcing the Braves to look at possible back-ups like rookie Jair Jurrjens, Jeff Bennett and Jo-Jo Reyes.
